Eliezer was born in Haifa, studied at the Reali school, and fought in the War of Independence. Upon his release he began his long relationship with the Technion earning his first two degrees at the Technion in the 1950s. His PhD in Operations Research (OR) at Case Institute of Technology (today’s Case Western) brought him into the research team of the legendary pioneer in OR, Russell Ackoff who began applying OR techniques in marketing for the giant brewery Anheuser Busch. Eliezer was part of the team that conducted some of the first quantitative studies of the effects of television advertising on purchases.  After completing his Ph.D. he worked in OR in the USA at Mobil Oil and later at Anheuser Busch breweries, helping to design its logistics and supply chain systems, which remained in place for decades.  He returned to the Technion as a lecturer just before the Six Day War in 1967. He served as dean from 1973 to 1974.  He was proud to bring the annual conference TIMS (now called INFORMS) to Tel Aviv in 1973 and to Jerusalem in 1975.  His publications appeared in Management Science, in Computer and Operations Research, and others.  Among his academic contributions was the transportation algorithm known as the Gavish-Shlifer algorithm.  In 1969 he was one of the co-founders of Tekem, the legendary early Israeli startup in software services that included one of his young Technion students, Yossi Vardi.
