About the Faculty
The digital revolution brings with it numerous innovations and opportunities for informed decision-making based on big data, and presents our society with challenges we have not previously encountered. These challenges are familiar to us in almost every area of life: from medical or financial decisions, to decisions made by autonomous vehicles and electronic markets, controlling information dissemination, and even creating new information and transforming the way art is produced.
Here, at the Faculty of Data and Decision Sciences, a vibrant and diverse community of researchers leading dynamic, multidisciplinary research aims to harness the data revolution for a better world and a society that makes more informed decisions. Together with a large community of research students, we have embarked on a fascinating journey that begins with data collected in the digital world and ends with decision-making in the real world. This includes methodologies for data collection, management, and processing, developing machine learning and optimization algorithms, tackling the challenge of presenting conclusions to decision-makers in a complex world, and building strategies for optimal decision-making.
Our success lies in the synergy between diverse fields of expertise. From machine learning and algorithm analysis to statistics and probability, from game theory and optimization to operations research and industrial engineering, from artificial intelligence to human-machine interaction, social sciences, and even brain sciences. Each interaction sparks research innovation and drives progress forward.
